Transfer News: Dayot Upamecano on Bayern Munich radar; Angelino’s joins Leipzig permanently in a £16.3m deal

Bayern Munich‘s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has confirmed that the Bavarians are set to sign RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano.

He confirmed this when asked by German publication BILD if an agreement had been reached between the clubs, saying: “I can, and we are very happy about that at FC Bayern”.

One of the most sought-after defenders in the game, Upamecanoo, seems to be heading over to the German champions who look to beat both Liverpool and Chelsea to the defender.

Bayern chief executive Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told reporters recently that both Premier League clubs were trying to sign him.

Salihamidzic added on Friday: “We had very good, intensive and professional discussions with Dayot and his agent Volker Struth over many months. We knew that we had very strong competition.”

According to sources in Germany, Upamecano will sign a five-year contract at the Allianz Arena and say he will replace David Alaba, who is out of contract at the club in the summer.

RB Leipzig turn Manchester City’s defender’s loan into permanent move

Transfer News

Angelino has joined RB Leipzig on a permanent deal from Premier League side Manchester City after the Bundesliga club activated their £16.3m buy option in his loan deal.

The 24-year-old left joined on loan in January 2020, but has now completed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Leipzig.

Leipzig’s manager, Julian Nagelsmann, often used Angelino as a wing back with his new attacking freedom helping him to record eight goals and 11 assists this season.

Despite becoming one of the German league’s most productive full backs, Angelino failed to establish himself during two spells at City, making just 15 appearances in total.

He joined City as a teenager from Deportivo La Coruna before embarking on loan spells at New York City, Girona, Real Mallorca and Dutch side NAC Breda.

Angelino then returned to City in 2018 after a buy-back option in his PSV contract was activated a year later.

However, he failed to convince Pep Guardiola and moved to Leipzig on loan after just six months back at the Etihad Stadium.

Diego Costa closing in on signing for Palmeiras

Transfer News

Former Chelsea striker Diego Costa is close to a return to Brazil to join his beloved Palmeiras.

The 32-year-old, who left Atletico Madrid in January, is in negotiations with one of the biggest clubs in his hometown of Sao Paulo – and the one he supported as a boy.

The Brazilian club has offered him a two-year deal worth around £2.6m per year after tax according to reports and the player is currently in Brazil.

Since leaving Atletico, Costa had been in talks with clubs in Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabian side Al-Shabab came closest to meeting his requests but no club was able to agree terms.

He had also been offered to clubs in the Premier League, with one top-six team offering him a deal until the end of the season, which was turned down.
