Arsenal signed one of their top targets this season in Thomas Partey on deadline day after the club finally met his £45m release clause.
The Ghanian signed a long-term deal from Atletico Madrid after he completed his medical and paperwork just before Monday’s 11 pm deadline.
He is set to wear the No 18 shirt and will join up with his new team-mates after he returns from international duty with Ghana.
Since breaking into the first team from Atletico’s academy in 2015, Partey has played a key role in Diego Simeone’s midfield.
Arteta says: “We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we’re now delighted to add such a high-quality player to our squad.
“He is a dynamic midfielder with great energy. He brings a lot of experience from a top club that has competed at the highest level in La Liga and the Champions League for several years.
“We’re very impressed with his attitude and his approach to the game. He’s an intelligent footballer and we’re looking forward to him integrating into our system and contributing to the progress we’re building at the moment at the club.”
Arsenal have now made Partey their seventh signing of the summer having already signed Willian on a free transfer from Chelsea and defender Gabriel from Lille for £27m.
Defenders Cedric Soares and Pablo Mari, who had been on loan at the club also completed a permanent move while an extension for the loan deal for Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid was triggered.
Goalkeeper Alex Runarsson was the club’s sixth signing, joining from Ligue 1 club Dijon on a four-year deal.
Arsenal also moved for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar in recent weeks but their attention was turned back to the Atletico midfielder after their offer was rejected by the French club.
Lucas Torreira has moved in the opposite direction to Atletico Madrid in a loan deal until the end of the season and Matteo Guendouzi has signed for a German club Hertha Berlin on a season-long loan.
Manchester United sign Edinson Cavani and Alex Telles
Manchester United just maybe solved their attacking problems with the signing of Edinson Cavani on a one-year deal on deadline day.
The 33-year-old was confirmed to have had held discussions with the club on Saturday, and he has finally secured his move to Old Trafford ahead of Monday’s 11 pm transfer deadline.
At the end of last season, Cavani left Paris Saint-Germain after seven years in the French capital scoring 187 goals in that duration.
He joins left-back Alex Telles who moved from Porto in a £15.4m deal as United’s second deadline day signing.
“Manchester United is one of the greatest clubs in the world, so it is a real honour to be here,” said the Uruguay international.
“I’ve worked really hard during the time off and I feel eager to compete and represent this incredible club.
“I have played in front of some of the most passionate supporters in football during my career and I know that it will be the same in Manchester. I cannot wait to experience the Old Trafford atmosphere when it is safe for the fans to return.
“I look forward to continuing to write my little story inside the book of football and I know that’s why my focus has to remain the same as always – work, work, work.
“I have had a conversation with the manager and this has increased my desire to wear this beautiful shirt.”
Alex Telles, 27, provides good value for United at the left-back position as Luke Shaw gets injured often.
The Portuguese champions, who were holding out for £22.5m, had rejected United’s offer initially, however, negotiations began again on Sunday morning, with Porto changing their minds on United’s most recent bid as they were convinced that no subsequent offer was likely from Old Trafford, with the transfer window about to close for Premier League clubs.
“To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour,” said Telles. “You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that I will give everything in my heart to be a success here.
“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to pull on the famous shirt.”
Telles signed for Porto from Galatasaray in 2016 and went on to win two Portuguese league titles and the Portuguese Cup in nearly 200 appearances for the club.
Solskjaer says: “He is a player we have been tracking for some time and his performances over the past few years are exactly what we are looking for.
“He is a fighter and a winner and will add real determination and competition to the squad.
“Alex has the qualities, both as a player and as a person, that we want here at Manchester United.”
Telles will fly to Sao Paulo to join the Brazil national team ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru.
