Trailer Thursday: Chika Ike set to release star-studded ‘Small Chops’

As the world prepares for the release of Chika Ike’s movie, Small Chops, we’re here to give you all the reasons why you should go see it.

Firstly, the name of the film! Don’t you just love it? When we hear ‘small chops’, all we can think of are those finger foods served at Owambes and which make us eat until our cravings cannot be satisfied.

So, is her movie anything like these small chops, read on and then decide for yourself!

The first hint of the movie was given in 2018 when Ike shared a picture of herself sitting at a dining table with food and drinks in front of her. She revealed that the name of her next film was right there in front of her, and gave an incentive of 50 thousand Naira to anyone who could guess the name.

After that, she continued to subtly tease the film in her posts by using hashtags, #smallchopsmovie #jan31st2020.

The title of her film is very captivating, but what does it mean, apart from just being food? Chika Ike has answered the question. She says it means, “A female or male who is in a short term relationship with a single or married person for the purpose of satisfying sexual needs or monetary gains.”

Ike made her Nollywood debut in the movie, Sweet Love, and she has since grown into a prominent figure in Nollywood, appearing in Bless the Child, Paradise, Mirror of Beauty, and starting her own company, FlipScript studios.

Ike produced ‘Small Chops’, but this is not her first time producing a movie. She made her producing debut in the film, ‘Miss Teacher’, and has also produced ‘Happy Ending,’ ‘Dark Past,’ ‘Locked Up,’ ‘One Fine Day,’ and ‘African Diva Reality Show’.

‘Small Chops’ tells the story of Nikita, a gifted club singer, played by Chika Ike, who has to deal with love, and realities of life.

Ike said about the film: “It took me a year to do the post-production. The film is about a character called Nikita; I was a dancer in that film. Some men believe that girls are small chops, but not all girls are small chops; we have dignity and pride. Some people stereotype people, so, this movie kicks against stereotyping.”

‘Small Chops’ stars industry heavyweights Eucharia Anunobi, Nkem Owoh, Rachael Oniga, Hafiz Oyetoro (Saka), Nse Ikpe-Etim, Chika Ike herself, and British actor Max Cavenham.

The premiere of the film was well attended by Nollywood actors and actresses, including Chika Ike herself, who looked stunning at the premiere.

The movie was directed by Robert Peters, who also directed ’30 days in Atlanta’ and ‘A Trip to Jamaica’. Joining Ike as a producer is her BFF and business partner, Serah Donald Onyeachor.

‘Small Chops’ is set for release on 31 January in cinemas nationwide. Watch the trailer below and let us know in the comments section if you’ll be watching this movie.
