The 45th American Music Awards turned California into a home for stars as everyone (or almost everyone) that mattered in the music industry flowed into the Microsoft Theater for the award presentation. There were lots of emotional moments as host Tracee Ellis Ross daughter of music icon, Diana Ross (who received an award for Lifetime Achievement), lit up the atmosphere. Also there were electrifying performances from Imagine Dragons who gave a rendition of their hit track Thunder and Pink giving a tribute to the late Whitney Houston by doing a cover of her song, Medley.
Bruno Mars who had the highest number of nominations (8) also walked away (though he was not physically present as he was traveling) with the highest number of honors with 7 awards to his name that included: Artist of the Year, Favorite Male Artist (Pop/Rock), Favorite Album (Pop/Rock) and also Best video for the song That’s what I like.

Lady Gaga beat Rihanna to win the award for the Favorite female Artist in the Pop/Rock category and not surprisingly, Despacito claimed the title of favorite song (Pop/Rock) for the year and also the Collaboration of the Year award.
Although Kendrick Lamar was beaten by Drake to the award of Favorite Artist (Rap/Hip-hop), Kendrick won the Album of the year for that category with D.A.M.N a clear fan favorite as well.

Beyonce was crowned the queen of American R&B after winning the Favorite Artist Female (Soul/R&B) and an emotionally charged atmosphere prevailed after the duo (now one) of Linkin Park won the Favorite Artist in Alternative Rock category. I’m the one was the Favorite Song in the Rap/Hip-hop category, and it is not surprising that the track with DJ Khaled, Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne.
