Serie A Roundup: Cristiano Ronaldo scores but got injured as Juventus fail to win; Other results

Cristiano Ronaldo was on the scoresheet against Lazio on Sunday but got injured as the host snatched an injury-time 1-1 draw against Juventus.

Ronaldo scored his sixth league goal of the season and third since returning at the start of the month after self-isolating due to coronavirus protocols, to hand the Serie A champions the early lead.

But he was substituted in the second half with an apparent ankle injury and watched his side concede a painful 94th-minute equaliser by Lazio substitute Felipe Caicedo.

Caicedo was also the match-winner at Torino last weekend grabbing a 98th-minute goal. He did the same against Zenit St Petersburg in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw in the Champions League, before capping a remarkable week with another last-gasp leveler to reward Lazio’s dominance after the break.

Ronaldo had initially put Juve on course after touching Juan Cuadrado cross into the net with just 15 minutes on the clock before  hitting the post at the interva. He also saw a free-kick brilliantly saved by Pepe Reina.

But in the 73rd minute, the Portuguese forward limped off and had to be replaced by Paulo Dybala with Lazio growing into the game.

Late drama ensued, however, when Joaquin Correa managed to wriggle his way into the area to find Caicedo, who provided the leveller with a shot on the turn to stun the visitors.

Andrea Pirlo defended Paulo Dybala who was dispossessed in the run-up to the goal saying: “It is not just (Paulo) Dybala, I think it is the whole team.

“When you concede a goal it’s not only one player to take the blame but the (whole) team in general because you win or lose a match as a team. We need to control these kinds of situations better and we must keep the willingness and hungriness to win matches until the very end.”

Bologna 0-1 Napoli: Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen solitary strike was enough to secure maximum points

Napoli’s record signing, Victor Osimhen, scored the decisive goal as Napoli managed to see off stubborn Bologna on Sunday evening in the Seria A.

Serie A roundup

Props also has to be given to goalkeeper David Ospina whose late fine saves kept Bologna at bay.

Napoli quickly took control and went ahead after 23 minutes and could have had a second when defender Kalidou Koulibaly had the ball in the net but it was disallowed following a VAR review because the ball brushed Osimhen’s hand in the build-up.

However, Napoli secured their fifth win in seven Serie A games to climb to third with 14 points, one having been deducted after they failed to play their fixture away to Juventus amid confusion over COVID-19 rules.
