After playing a 2-2 draw against Valencia, Real Madrid had their hope of a reinvigorating victory quashed as Levante hold them to a one goal draw and Barcelona continue to win, with Suarez making a return from injury.
Still without their Portuguese talisman, Real Madrid hoped to ease the worry of the Bernabeu faithful with a win but they started on a weak note and they were caught with their pants down as Levante’s Ivi scored an easy goal after the home defenders failed to deal with a long throw into their box, they were down already by the 12th minute. Another blow struck them as Benzema was forced to leave the match injured due to a slip up when he tried to get a ball under his control.
Lucas Vazguez was however on hand to score the equalizer after Levante’s back-line failed to clear a loose ball in their box following a cross from a free kick.
Madrid were then forced to chase the game for a winner to no avail as the defense were determined to keep the score as it was. And their frustration grew as Marcelo received a red card for intentionally kicking a player’s head after he saw his effort go wide.
Their rivals meanwhile have continued their excellent run as they have won their three matches in the league and are yet to concede a single goal in the competition this season.
Lionel Messi was in superb form against local rivals Espanyol and he was rewarded with a match ball for his efforts after he completed his hat-trick.
He was assisted by Rakitic for the first goal, though he had to apply his beautiful curling technique to make the goal possible and left-back Alba assisted his remaining two goals with a cut back and a square played pass.
Dembele who signed for Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund made his debut from the bench and he assisted the last goal, from a returning Luis Suarez to convert from close range. Defender, Gerard Pique, scored the second goal when he headed in from a corner kick.
