R Kelly’s lawyer, Steven Greenberg, is reportedly concerned that the dismissal of Jussie Smollet’s case by prosecutors in Cook County, Chicago may spell bad news for his client who is facing several charges related to criminal sexual molestations.
Smollet was accused of staging a homophobic and racist attack against himself. All 16 felony charges against him were dropped by the state attorney in what was described as a whitewash of justice by the Chicago mayor, Rahm Emanuel.
R Kelly’s lawyer reportedly made his misgivings known to TMZ
According to TMZ, Greenberg is worried that that outcome will spell a disaster for his client especially with regard to striking plea bargain.
“I think it makes it more difficult for a friendly disposition because they’re going to be extremely reluctant to admit they brought these cases with scant evidence or that there are any other problems,” Greenberg reportedly tells TMZ.
He also stated that the state’s attorney Kim Foxx and her team may now view Kelly’s case as a chance to redeem themselves after taking such intense heat from the City of Chicago for dropping charges against Smollet.
R. Kelly is facing more serious charges than Smollett. He’s been hit with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse. All are class 2 felonies which carry a max sentence of 3 to 7 years in prison for each offence.
He’s denied all the allegations.
