The 13th edition of Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) was held at Ekoh Hotels Lagos. The event provided another opportunity to recognise excellency in filmmaking in Africa and to reward those who are working tirelessly for the advancemeng of the movie industry in the continent. It is the first time the event was hosted in the City of Lagos with support from the Lagos State Government as a continuation of the Lagos@50 celebrations.
This year, and there were twenty-seven competitive awards that were up for grabs for which Nollywood got five. Find which films below.
Nigeria filmss that won in the night are:
1. ’76
Directed by Izu Ojukwu. Winners in two categorìes:
Best Nigerian Film and Achievement in Production Design.
2. Oloibiri
Directed by Curtis Graham. Winner in one category:
Achievement in Makeup
3. Three Wise Men
Directed by Patience Oghre Imobhio. Winner in one category:
Best comedy
4. CEO
Directed by Winner in one category
Best actress in a Supporting Role – Angélique Kidjo
5. Got Flower
Winner in one category:
Best Animation
Overall, Nollywood didn’t do exceptionally well. Something to do with the quality of production or that filmmakers in Africa are upping their game? We shall be having a look on that on a subsequent article.
