The pageant is taking a detour from the traditional criteria of body requirements and is bringing mixed reaction.
The 2017 beauty pageant will be bringing something (make that many) new to the table in its Diamond Jubilee Edition and those who saw that video on Miss Peru Pageant will be proud of the organizers of the Nigerian pageant show.
Ynaija reports that the competition will also not include the swimsuit contests and will instead have selected women show the world their talents and gifts while at the same time competing for the crown. The development also allows women, irrespective of their weight and height to participate and contestants are welcomed from the 36 States in Nigeria and also from Abuja.
Interested participants living outside the country are also encouraged to enter as long as they have a valid Nigerian identification to prove their citizenship.
Speaking on the new development, the CEO of Times Multimedia Enyinne Owunwanne said:
“As a media platform, we have an opportunity to voice our opinion about so many things that are swept under the rug. Women are not just pretty faces, we’re intelligent and we’re passionate about our country. We’ve gotten to a point in the conversation where it no longer makes sense to say this is the ideal of beauty.”
Age requirement is 18 to 25 years. They only need to be in good health, not married, pregnant or mothers.
The winner will go home with a luxury car, N3m cash prize, one year free accommodation in Lagos and other prizes.
For entries, a 2-mins video should be made stating their name, occupation, age, brief background and why they want to be crowned Miss Nigeria. The video should be uploaded on YouTube and linked to the organizers by the email info@missnigeria.ng or a 60 sec video on Instagram with the hash tag #MissNigeria2017 and tag @missnigeriaorg.
Interested ladies should visit the official site www.missnigeria.ng to buy the form of N5, 000 and for more details.
