Many Nigerians hoped that African Giant, Burna Boy, will bag the Grammys last night, but their hopes were dashed as Angelique Kidjo beat him to the award.
The Beninese music great won the Grammy Award for the category Best World Music Album, for her album, Celia.
The fans of the self-proclaimed African Giant have reacted in various ways to the loss of their giant as many of them had hoped he will win. They have taken to the Twitter community to air their disappointment.
A fan tweeted: “Burna is no doubt an African Giant, not easy to win when nominated alongside your mentor and a legend of Africa. Burna keep the flag flying, we coming back to win the Grammys. Anticipate the Coming of the African Giant. Long live the Giant of Africa”
Another tweeted: “Look at who Burna boy was up against… she dedicated her award to him. That’s still a win for the African Giant. She’s 31 years older than him… The sky is still the starting point. His Role model”

Burna Boy whose album got nominated didn’t even say he’ll celebrate for his haters to bore if he wins
But Opana, who didn’t even get 50% playing time on album says he go celebrate make his haters bore

That they cheated burna boy. Lmao! I’m not saying he doesn’t deserve it but Do you know who Angelique Kidjo is? Do you know how powerful her music is? I. E How you gonna win a Grammy over the one whose song you sampled? I’m a fan of both but please be reasonable for once.

Angelique Kidjo totally deserved that Grammy and her dedicating the award to Burna Boy was pure class. I believe Burna would get nominated once again and win in the nearest future.

Burna Boy didn’t win but the nomination is a great recognition for him and Nigeria. And please let’s dead this narrative of Grammy is not fair to Africans. Angelique Kidjo is a Benin Republic legend.
