She was a guest on Lil Wayne’s Apple Music series, Young Money Radio With Lil Wayne, where she discussed her marriage to Kenneth Petty, among other things.
Nicki Minaj, 37, was asked how married life is treating her. “Good, good, good,” she replied, adding: “I can’t complain. I really cannot freaking complain.”
“I didn’t think it would be as refreshing and calming as it is,” the ‘Yikes’ rapper continued. “Even if you’re not married, when you have someone that feels like your soulmate or someone who understands you, it just makes you feel like you’re on top of the world.”
After more than a year together, Nicki Minaj married Kenneth Petty in October 2019 after the two reconnected. They have known each other for a long time, she said at the start of their relationship.
Since she got married, she has teased fans with baby news, sharing a video in February of Petty rubbing her belly. She wrote; “Trinidad with your dad.”
In May, she also teased fans on Twitter by sharing that she was having cravings, nausea, and other symptoms that are regularly associated with pregnancy.
At some other point in the interview, she also discussed starting out in the music industry and her fears that she would not be taken seriously as a female rapper.
“It was getting someone to take you serious, and that was the whole thing I was worried about,” Minaj explained. “I didn’t know if you would take me serious, because at the time people had really given up on female rappers.”
“I just knew I was going to make it, so I was enjoying the groundwork of it and I was working super hard,” she added. “I think people don’t realize the work that goes into it. Because if you’re not going to work, why bother?”
