New Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum gets ready for challenge

Newly appointed coach of Nigeria’s senior national women’s football team, Randy Waldrum, has commenced behind the scenes work as he bids to fulfill the high standards expected of him by his employers and Nigerian football fans.

The American, whose appointment came after predecessor, Thomas Dennerby, unceremoniously resigned from his role as the manager of the team during the France 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, has confirmed that he been in touch with key Super Falcons players after hosting them to online meetings.

Waldrum also revealed that he had a filled time interacting with some of the Falcons players including Captain Asisat Oshoala, veteran defender Onome Ebi, Osinachi Ohale, and Ini Umotong via zoom and now he is looking forward to meeting them in person.

The 64-year-old was quoted saying: “Had a great time meeting the players a few weeks ago! Can’t wait to get started with them!”

He will be supported in his new role by former Falcons goalkeeper Ann Chiejine, who has also been appointed first Assistant Coach.

There were initial reports suggesting that the Super Falcons are set for camping in Brazil later this month, as the Falcons’ new coach, Randy Waldrum, looks to resume duty with the African giants.

The Super Falcons are by far Africa’s most successful international women’s team, winning a record eleven Africa Women Cup of Nations titles, with their most recent title in 2018, after defeating South Africa in the final.

The team is also the only women’s national team from the Confederation of African Football to have reached the quarterfinals in both the FIFA Women’s World Cup and Football at the Summer Olympics.
