Tiwa Savage drops the highly awaited visual for her first official single for the year, 49-99, which dropped on Thursday 5th September 2019.
In an interview with the Beat1, the vocal powerhouse shared the meaning of the new song. Tiwa explains the music is inspired by late Fela Anikulapo, the great musician who sang about Nigerians suffering and smiling, epitomised in Fela’s song Shuffering and Shmiling where he sang about Nigeria’s poor public transportation system, 49 sitting, 99 standing.
According to her, she had to make this music to highlight how so many Nigerians are suffering silently and at the same time smiling.
Tiwa’s 49-99 also draws inspiration from the work of Congolese photographer, Eliot Elisofon.
Through each of the scenes, Tiwa Savage’s looks — whether it’s a sexy number or an enigmatic outfit — exude power, sex appeal and self-confidence.
The video was shot and directed by prolific video director, Meji Alabi.
