The track will be released by Knitting Factory Records, Kalakuta Sunrise and Partisan Records.
The re-launch is a limited edition as it will have only 300 units worldwide going for $35. The album will also feature another of Fela’s song, Mr Follow Follow.
In describing Zombie’s re-launch, author Mabinuori Kayode Idowu writes that Fela “narrates the military in motion comparing their orientation to the Zombie, without minds of their own. Fela paid a big price for this bold condemnation of the military institution.”
After Fela released the track in 1976, more than a thousand soldiers were sent on February 18, 1977, to the Kalakuta Republic – the Lagos communal home of Fela Kuti – and his home was burnt to the ground.
