Yemi Alade, nicknamed Mama Africa, recently released a 15-track album dubbed Woman of Steel. The album dropped on 30 August 2019 as we reported.
The singer had announced the album after she released a remix to her hit-single, Oh My Gosh, which featured American rapper, Rick Ross.
Woman od Steel is Yemi Alade’s fourth studio album after Black Magic (2017), Mama Africa (2016) and King of Queens (2014).
The body of work features appearances from Duncan Mighty, Funke Akindele, Angélique Kidjo as well as Rick Ross.
The prolific singer and energetic performer, who is signed to Universal Music Group, explained that the album was titled Woman of Steel because she grew up watching many superhero movies like Superman, Superwoman, Spiderman, Catwoman… and later realised she was her own superhero. She, therefore, decided to name the album after the character she represents: a “woman of steel”.
In her words: “I always wanted to remind the women out there – and also the guys – that we all need to be strong from the inside out. Especially women, because there are a lot of double standards, and unfortunately female artists are never the ones in favour: most of the times we have we to prove ourselves capable, and we have to work twice to earn the support of an audience.”
