Burna Boy drops more video from his 4th studio album, African Giant.
The Afrobeats singer, on Tuesday 10th September, released the music video for Gum Body, the number five track on the album, African Giant. The song also features Jorja Smith.
This comes barely three weeks after the video for Pull Up was released.
In the new video, Burna perhaps is singing to Jorja Smith as he apologises for his screw-ups and adamantly declaring his love for her.
The video, like the song for which it was based, is mellow and melancholic as Burna sings about past regrets after losing out on his love interest, and now he’s left with an aching heart.
“I dey call you no dey answer/I say make I call you some more/Yeah you leave me no choice, oh/Very soon I go appear for your domot,” Burna Boy laments in the opening verse of the song.
However, underneath the solemnity is the subtle echo of lust, passion, and ardour.
We see Burna Boy gently caresses a barely clad Jorja Smith by a window while they sing softly to each other and along the hallways of the empty apartment they live in. Meanwhile, J-Money seductively dances in a blue lace skirt in the kitchen.
The video brilliantly captures a vintage aesthetic, making use of a modest home featuring contrasting patterns and colours for wallpaper, drapes, and furniture.
While Burna realises his grave mistakes, Jorja Smith ponders the thought of letting Burna back into her life but realises the situation is so toxic. “I can’t take these lies anymore/ It’s trying for me, it’s playing with you,” Jorja sings.
The video is directed by Meji Alabi
