Asa, Wizkid, Rihanna: Here are the most anticipated albums of 2019

When you talk about music, people have literally been sitting on the edge of their chairs for 2019 is the year!

Top musicians like Wizkid, Rihanna, Ariana Grande, Asa have said repeatedly that they will be dropping albums in 2019. Their fans have undeniably been waiting with bated breaths for their arts to drop.

That’s why we compiled a list of artists who have announced they would be releasing albums this year. The list also includes artists who will likely shock us with a body of work in 2019. In case you were wondering, artists who should have an album out this year will also be on this list.

1. Rihanna

Rihanna’s fans hounded her all through 2018 and even into 2019 for an album, which they have undoubtedly been waiting for a long time. Rihanna has no doubt overused the line “Its not 2019 yet,” as that’s the reply she gives every time she’s asked when her album is coming out. Her last album was 2016’s ANTI. Bad gal Riri has been working on other projects such as her make up and her lingerie lines. But you better believe that when she drops her album this year (and she better!), it will dominate the charts, as she does with everything she does!

2. Ariana Grande

Ariana Grande has released two songs from her upcoming album, Thank U, Next. She started writing it shortly after she released her last, Sweetener. She hasn’t even gone on her already-scheduled Sweetener tour yet! She has released two songs from the album: Thank U, Next and 7 rings and those two are evidence that the album will be fire! We can’t wait!

3. Kanye West

Towards the end of last year, Kanye West announced a new album, Yandhi. Fans were excited to listen until he announced that he was cancelling the release of the album. West then announced a new date and then he failed to deliver again. Kanye also travelled to ‘Africa’ last year to “explore new sounds” so we’re definitely more than curious to listen whenever he drops Yandhi. Hopefully this year, hopefully soon.

4. Wizkid

The year was 2018 and Wizkid announced that he would be releasing his fourth studio album, titled Made in Lagos. According to him, it would be without features. He even went ahead to announce a release date. The date rolled by and no album, just single after single that ended in a double end of year concert. It’s now 2019 and hopefully, Wizkid will make good on his promise and finally release Made in Lagos this year.

5. Cardi B

Cardi B released Invasion of Privacy (her first album) to critical acclaim. Many are in doubt over whether she can do it again. She is set to either shame or prove her haters right as she has announced that she will be dropping her second album this year.

“Hopefully I can get my album done around the same time that Invasion of Privacy came out,” She told her fans on Instagram. We hope so too, Cardi.

6. Davido

Davido has not released an album since his 2012 Omo Baba Olowo which lifted him into the limelight. He has instead released a lot of singles which have earned him recognition and cemented his place on top as one of Nigeria’s most popular artists. Davido has said, though, that he will be putting his new material into a body of work this year so we’ll definitely be on the lookout!

7. Timi Dakolo

Timi Dakolo has been in the industry for so long, with his rich voice taking him places so it is hard to believe that the talented singer has only one album, Beautiful Noise, released in 2011 to his name. He is set to rectify this though, with an album set for release in 2019 called Love and Consequences. Definitely a highly anticipated album, that one.

8. Tiwa Savage

Tiwa Savage is one of the most consistent artists in Nigeria, dropping hit after hit, killing stages worldwide. She has three projects to her name: 2013’s R.E.D, 2015’s Once Upon a Time and an EP, Sugarcane, which she released in 2017. In what is becoming a pattern, the songstress has said that she will release an album in 2019.

“I think I’m going to drop my third album this year. I dropped an EP ‘Sugar Cane’ last year and I think it’s time for another album. And I have a lot of songs and material that I don’t want to go to waste. So, I think I’m going to drop an album this year.” She said last year. We wait!

9. Asa

Nigerian singer and songwriter, Bukola Elemide aka Asa, has announced to the delight of her fans that she will release an album early in 2019. This will be her fourth album after Bed Of Stone in 2014, Beautiful Imperfection in 2010 and her 2007 self-named debut, Asa.

10. M.I. Abaga

If M.I. chooses to disappoint this year, we will definitely understand. The Chocolate City boss blessed us with two individual projects in 2018: Rendezvous and Yung Denzel, his eighth studio project. He also executive produced two projects from artists in his camp: Crown and Bad Boy Blaq. With videos and singles from these projects to be made, M.I is bound to have a busy year even without the release of a new project.

But the rapper has promised that Yung Denzel is a trilogy that kicks off a set of three album series that covers a study of love, a study of society and a study of self. The next album is already completed, according to the rapper and is expected to be out this year.
