Weekend watchlist: 10 new films and TV series to watch from 2 July 2021

This weekend, film lovers get to see the anticipated sci-fi production “The Tomorrow War”, while animation fans are being served the latest Boss Baby instalment “The Boss Baby: Family Business”.

Here we have have collated 10 must-see films and tv series that you can make your weekend all about. Of course, we have made our picks assorted. 1. The Forever Purge

As the fifth and final film in The Purge franchise, it is only right that “The Forever Purge” will be the culmination of goriness. Starring Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas
Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Alejandro Edda, and Will Patton, the film is set in a dystopian Texan ranch. For now, it is strictly showing in cinemas, and you can find one near you here.

2. No Sudden Move

This is an American period crime thriller film set in 1955 in Detroit and directed by Steven Soderbergh. Don Cheadle and Benicio del Toro lead the all-star cast of the film about a group of small-time criminals who are hired to steal what they wrongly think is a simple document. You can watch it on HBO Max.

3. Till Death

Megan Fox returns to centre stage in this horror thriller action film with Callan Mulvey, Eoin Macken, Aml Ameen and Jack Roth as co-stars. It is showing in limited cinemas worldwide and you can see the screening guide on Screen Media Films.

4. Smother

“Smother” is an Irish television series that follows Val Ahern (played by Dervla Kirwan) and her three daughters as they try to investigate what happened to Denis (played by Stuart Graham), Val’s husband, who is found dead at the foot of a cliff near their home the morning after a family party. The first season has six episodes and it is showing on Peacock streaming platform.

5. The Tomorrow War

Chris Pratt, Yvonne Strahovski, J. K. Simmons, and Betty Gilpin feature in this American military science fiction action film set in two different and coinciding timelines. If you enjoyed “Tenet”, you will likely be crazy about “The Tomorrow War” as well. Also, it is a good that it is showing on Amazon Prime Video because there will likely be a lot of pause, replays and rewinds to get a hand of it in two watches.

6. Fear Street Part 1: 1994

This is the first installment in the Fear Street Trilogy, an American slasher film about a group of teenagers in a cursed town trying to change their fate. First viewers have described the film as chair-gripping horror watch. “Fear Street Part 1: 1994” is showing on Netflix.

7. The God Committee

A psychological and moral film about a group of people who are saddled with the responsibility of deciding who dies or who lives. Their dilemma comes from a suddenly available organ and more than one needy patient. Vertical Entertainment is distributing this film.

8. The Boss Baby: Family Business or The Boss Baby 2

A direct sequel of the widely successful 2017 animated film “The Boss Baby”, “The Boss Baby: Family Business” or “The Boss Baby 2” finally lands in US cinemas this weekend. Additionally, it is streaming on Peacock for the first 60 days as well. Hollywood’s biggest stars come together to voice the characters with Alec Baldwin, James Marsden, Amy Sedaris, Ariana Greenblatt, Jeff Goldblum, Eva Longoria, Jimmy Kimmel, and Lisa Kudrow all taking part in making it a success.

9. Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)

This is a documentary film focused on the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival, which was held at Mount Morris Park in Harlem and lasted for six weeks. Icons such as Stevie Wonder, Mahalia Jackson, Nina Simone, The 5th Dimension, The Staple Singers, Gladys Knight & the Pips, and Sly and the Family Stone performed at the original event. Producer Robert Fyvolent was able to obtain the original unpublished festival footage and music fans are surely in for a treat with this one. It got a limited release in the US with only 800 cinemas showing it but you can also watch it on Hulu as well.

10. Young Royals

“Young Royals” is a teen television series that follows Prince Wilhelm, a passionate member of the royal family who as to adapt to life in a new prestigious boarding school. It stars Edvin Ryding, Omar Rudberg, and Malte Gårdinger, and it is streaming on Netflix.
