So, how about you join me as we look through a list of new movies and TV shows debuting this weekend? Featuring biopics, thrillers, animated series, and fantasy, just to mention a few, our watchlist is nothing short of mouthwatering. Surely, one or more of these will tickle your fancy.
1. King Richard
A look into the life of the man who made Tennis world-beaters Serena and Venus Williams, King Richard is a 2021 American biographical drama film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green. It follows the life of Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed sisters Venus and Serena Williams. Despite having no tennis background, Richard Williams overcomes tremendous hardship, skepticism, and his troubled past to raise two of tennis’ greatest players. The film stars Will Smith in the title role, alongside the likes of John Bernthal, Tim White, Demi Singleton, and more. It is available in cinemas across the globe, starting today.
2. C’mon C’mon
A24 comes through with yet another impressive and tidy offering. After bagging the coveted Oscar plaque for Best Actor two years ago, star man Joaquin Phoenix took his time picking his next material, and it seems he didn’t miss. C’mon C’mon is a 2021 American black-and-white drama film written and directed by Mike Mills. Johnny and his young nephew forge a tenuous but transformational relationship when they are unexpectedly thrown together in this delicate and deeply moving story about the connections between adults and children, the past and the future, from writer-director Mike Mills. C’mon C’mon comes on in movie theatres starting today.

3. The Power of the Dog
Benedict Cumberbatch in a Western? Where do I sign up? The Power of The Dog is a film adaptation of Thomas Savage’s 1967 novel of the same name. It tells the story of a domineering, magnetic rancher who responds with mocking cruelty when his brother brings home a new wife and her son until the unexpected comes to pass. The film also features Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Roger Frappier, among others. It powered into US cinemas on Wednesday, 17 November 2021, before it will begin streaming on Netflix worldwide on 1 December.
4. Bruised
Hally Berry reintroduces herself to Hollywood, this time, as a director, with this action-packed sports drama film. Jackie is a single mother working two jobs and a disgraced MMA fighter who has been up against the ropes her entire life. When the authorities threaten to take her young son away, she must get back in the cage for one last chance to fight for redemption and give her son the life she always wanted. The film started showing in cinemas on Wednesday before debuting on Netflix on 24 November.
5. The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star
Netflix is on rampage, as the streaming company seems bent on having their name on every project, and this one is no different. The Princess Switch 3 American Christmas romantic comedy film directed by Mike Rohl. When a priceless relic is stolen, Margaret and Stacy enlist the help of audacious Fiona and a dashing man to retrieve it… sparking a tantalizing Christmas romance and a very unexpected switch. The film made its theatrical debut on Thursday, 18 November.
6. The Sex Lives of College Girls (Season 1)

Coming of age stories are always interesting, relatable, and reminiscent, depending on what age bracket the audience falls in. The Sex Lives of College Girls is one of such. It is an American teen comedy-drama streaming television series created by Mindy Kaling and Justin Noble. The HBO Max series follows four roommates navigating their new freedom on the prestigious campus of Essex College, and it premiered on Thursday, 18 November.

7. Ghostbusters: Afterlife
You may not have noticed, but Sigourney Weaver and SciFi are 5 & 6. She stars in this one as she adds yet another SciFi film to her repertoire. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a 2021 American supernatural comedy film directed by Jason Reitman. A single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town, and they discover their connection to the original ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind. The film stars Ernie Hudson, McKenna Grace, Jason Reitman, Paul Rudd, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver, among others. The new flick will be “busting” through screens, starting today, 19 November.
8. Hit Monkey (Season 1)
Marvel’s Hit-Monkey, or simply Hit-Monkey, is an American adult animated streaming television series created by Will Speck and Josh Gordon. A vengeful Japanese snow monkey and the ghost of an American assassin cut down Tokyo’s underworld. Staring the likes of Jason Sudeikis, George Takei, Olivia Munn, Ally Maki, the series premiered on Hulu on Thursday, 18 November. The type of entertainment you can enjoy indoor without breaking a sweat.
9. Zeros and Ones
Zeros and Ones is a 2021 American-Italian thriller film written and directed by Abel Ferrara. Called to the city to stop an imminent terrorist bombing, soldier J.J. desperately seeks news of his imprisoned rebel brother, Justin, who holds knowledge that could thwart the attack. Navigating the capital’s darkened streets, J.J. races through a series of ominous encounters, hoping to keep the Vatican from being blown to bits. The movie, which features Ethan Hawke in a lead role, has Abel Ferrara, Cristina Chiriac, Phil Neilson, and Diana Phillips supporting, among others. It debuts in US cinemas today.
10. The Wheel of Time (Season 1)
Set in a sprawling, epic world where magic exists and only certain women are allowed to access it, the story follows Moiraine, a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organization called the Aes Sedai, as she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers. There, she embarks on a dangerous, world-spanning journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity. The Wheel Of Time is a new fantasy series based on Robert Jordan’s novel series of the same name, and it is set to debut on Prime Video today.
