How time flies! Welcome to the first weekend in the last month of 2021. There is so much TV and film entertainment in store for film enthusiasts this month, and I’ll like to get right down to business. Arguably the biggest story this weekend is the release of the final part of Money Heist. The show comes to its end after a graceful four year run. Let’s run through what’s coming to the screens this weekend.
1. Money Heist (Season 5, Vol. 2)
It’s time to say goodbye to the Spanish show that warmed its way to millions of hearts a little over four years ago. La Casa De Papel bows out with the second volume of part 5, which consists of 5 episodes. With the Professor mysteriously away from comms and the building still surrounded by police, the heist crew argues over how to escape and what to do with all the gold. This final lap promises to be a rollercoaster, and it will be the perfect entertainment this weekend. Will Alicia hand the Professor over to the police? Will the crew escape or die? These and many more mysteries will be put to bed in the tumultuous finale. It debuted on Netflix on 3 December 2021.
2. Encounter
Encounter is a 2021 sci-fi thriller film, directed by Michael Pearce from a screenplay by Pearce and Joe Barton. It features Academy Award nominee Riz Ahmed as a decorated Marine who goes on a rescue mission to save his two young sons from an inhuman threat. As their journey takes them in increasingly dangerous directions, the boys will need to leave their childhoods behind. You can face Encounter in UK cinemas or stream it on Prime Video starting from Friday.
3. The Hand of God
The Hand of God is a 2021 Italian drama film written, directed, and produced by Academy Award-winning writer and director Paolo Sorrentino. It follows the story of a boy, Fabietto Schisa, in the tumultuous Naples of the 1980s. Fabietto experiences heartbreak, liberation, and many joys after he’s inadvertently saved from a freak accident by soccer legend Diego Maradona. The film, which premiered in Italian cinemas a week ago, now makes it to the US and other parts of the world via streaming platform Netflix.

4. Deadlock
Deadlock is an American action thriller film directed by Jared Cohn. Bruce Willis stars as Ron Whitlock, a wanted criminal leading a team of mercenaries on a mission of vengeance. Convinced that the government is working against them, the merciless group brutally seizes an energy plant and holds everyone inside hostage. With a nearby town on the brink of massive flooding and destruction, it’s up to one retired elite army ranger Mack Karr to save thousands of innocent lives before it’s too late. Deadlock is available in US theatres from 3 December.
5. Perfect life (Season 2)
Money Heist series going viral has opened many eyes to the beauty of Spanish TV content. Perfect Life, or Vida Perfecta in Spanish, is a comedy television series, created by Leticia Dolera. When a young woman’s life begins to slip into disarray, her sister and best friend come to her rescue. The three women in their thirties: Cris, Esther, and María, are facing different life situations and eventually come to rethink their pre-established ideas about life. The series returns for its second season on the streaming platform HBO MAX today.
6. Back to the Outback
Back to the Outback is an upcoming computer-animated adventure comedy film directed by Clare Knight and Harry Cripps. Tired of humans gawking at them like they’re monsters, a ragtag group of Australia’s deadliest creatures plots a daring escape from their zoo to the Outback, a place where they’ll fit in without being judged for their scales and fangs. It stars, Isla Fisher, Eric Bana, Akiva Goldsman, Harry Cripps, Greg Lessans, and Wayne Knight among others. The film is available on Netflix this weekend.

7. Benedetta
Debuting in select parts of the US on Friday, 3 December 2021, is this biographical drama film that tells the story of a 17th-century nun who becomes entangled in a forbidden lesbian affair with a novice. But it is Benedetta’s shocking religious visions that threaten to shake the Church to its core. Lambert Wilson, David Birke, Paul Verhoeven, Virginie Efira, Daphne Patakia, Judith C Brown, and Charlotte Rampling are some of the names on the project.
8. Castle Falls
Castle Falls is a mystery/adventure film that stars Dolph Lundgren and Scott Adkins. After decades of neglect, Castle Heights Hospital is packed with dynamite and ready to be demolished. However, no one knows that a gang leader, now in prison, hid $3 million in stolen cash inside the abandoned building. Now, three desperate parties want the money — and they have exactly 90 minutes to find it and get out alive. The film makes its theatrical debut this weekend in the US.
9. This Game’s Called Murder
A modern, dark-humored tale of greed, romance, and lost innocence, according to IMDB. The film follows the daughter of iconic women’s luxury footwear designer Mr. Wallendorf, who sabotages her sadistic father’s business in a dark tale of murder, greed, and betrayal based in a consumer-crazed society. It stars Ron Perlman, Vanessa Marano, Adam Sherman, and many more. The film starts killing it in cinemas starting Friday, 3 December 2021.
10. Lost in Space (Season 3)
Lost in Space is an American science fiction television series and is a reimagining of the 1965 series of the same name following the adventures of a family of space colonists whose spaceship veers off course. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, the Robinsons, a family of space colonists, crash-land on an unknown planet. Now, they must fight for survival and escape, despite the dangers surrounding them. The series returns on Netflix for its third and final season this weekend.
