The Marvel Cinematic Universe has continued, after decades, to dominate its fiercest competitors across the globe as the highest-grossing film franchise in the world, according to Statista, grossing a worldwide box office revenue of 22.56 billion U.S. dollars.
An estimated 980.5 million U.S. dollars has been calculated as the average revenue per film in its series (23) so far. Also, the “Avengers: Endgame” is currently atop the franchise’s highest-grossing film (with a revenue of 2.8 billion U.S. dollars), and it is also leading the way at the box office in the opening weekend category.
The “Avengers: Endgame” totally crushed other movies in its opening weekend, grossing a total of $357,115,007, and it might be difficult to see another movie topping that for a while.
Marvel also has another movie from the Avengers movie franchise coming second to only Avengers: Endgame with a total of $257,698,183 in its opening weekend. The movie is “Avengers: Infinity War”, and it was released on 27 April 2018.
The Star Wars franchise makes a mark on the weekend box office giving the Marvel Cinematic Universe a run for their money. It has four of its movies in the top 20, ranked for being the highest-grossing movie in its opening weekend, and that’s not bad.
The latest movie in the franchise, “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” (2019), recouped $177.38 million in its opening weekend, but “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens” made almost $250 million on its first weekend, and is the most successful so far in the opening weekend in the movie franchise. The least successful was the 2018 release “Solo: A Star Wars Story”, with opening weekend box office takings of less than $85 million.
“Jurassic World” was released exactly six years ago starring Chris Pratt, Irrfan Khan, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio, Ty Simpkins and others. It hit cinemas on 29 May 2015, becoming the fourth instalment of the Jurassic Park franchise and the first in the Jurassic World trilogy.
The movie occupies the fifth spot on the top 20 highest-grossing ranked movies in the opening weekend with $208,806,270. Jurassic World is also the second-highest-grossing film of 2015 and the highest-grossing in the franchise.
