MF Doom, the mysterious rapper that performs behind skull masks has passed away at the age of 49, cause of death remains unknown.
MF Doom, born as Daniel Dumile, was said to have transitioned on 31 October 2020 according to his wife. However, his death was announced on 31 December 2020, new year’s eve.
Dumile or MF Doom as people know him was popular because of his type of rap music. While he leveraged on wordplay like many other rappers, he also managed to mix gloomy themes with humour.
MF Doom was a fan of comics and cartoons and time travel – as well as food – featured in his songs. He is referenced as the rapper who cleared the path for ‘hip hop eccentrics’ like Playboi Carti and Tyler, the Creator.
He initially found fame in 1989 and then worked with his brother until he was killed in 1993. From then on, he continued to make music underground before resurfacing in the late 90s with a mask.

Before his death, MF Doom had lost his son King Malachi Ezekiel Dumile in 2017 at the age of 14. The rapper made comic-book-style mythology works about himself and his music during his heydays. He used other monikers such as King Geedorah and Viktor Vaughn.
Tributes have been pouring in in respect to him with millions of social media posts from people that he inspired.
MF DOOM passing made me see how much I LOVE hip-hop. Making hip-hop music. Listening to hip-hop music. Critiquing hip-hop music. Sharing hip-hop music. Forever MF DOOM.
