France and PSG forward Kylian Mbappe was the deciding factor scoring twice as the Ligue 1 holders took a 3-2 advantage into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie with Bayern Munich.
He was quick off the mark as he scored inside the first 5 minutes of the game to stun the Champions League holders as PSG looks to avenge last season’s final loss to the German club.
Marquinhos doubled PSG’s advantage shortly before half-time after Neymar’s ball forward found him leaving the Bayern defenders in shambles. The PSG captain was however injured in the process and had to leave the game moments later.
Former PSG forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting started Bayern’s fightback having pulled them within a goal while Thomas Muller to head past Keylor Navas and level up on the hour mark.
But the French champions never stopped fighting as Neymar and Mbappe combined once again to punish the Bayern defence and score PSG’s third as they take a sensational first-leg advantage along with three away goals into Tuesday’s second leg at the Parc des Princes.
PSG are halfway with their revenge but they can also take joy in the fact that they stopped Bayern Munich from setting a new club record of 20 European Cup games without defeat. The defeat to PSG was Bayern’s first in the Champions League since losing 3-1 to Liverpool at the Allianz Arena in March 2019.
