Kim Kardashian-West has been showing off her new white blonde lengths this week, and her hairstylist Chris Appleton has been talking about what made her ditch her signature dark hair.
KKW debuted her new hair at New York Fashion Week, where she unveiled the icy white tresses in time for the fashion event.
The star spoke about her new look on her website and app: “I’ve been talking about going blond again for a long time, and I’m so happy I did! I know a lot of people initially thought I was wearing a wig, but it’s my real hair.”
The 36-year-old reality star credits the ‘most perfect platinum, silvery-white colour’ to her hairstylist Chris Appleton.
“We wanted a whole new vibe – and a drastic change. This look is a great transition from the super-long, Cher-like style Kim’s been rocking since last year in Paris,” Chris says.
The first time Kardashian-West went platinum was back in 2015, where she spent 21 days testing out the daring shade. But it seems the mum-of-two (soon to be three) missed her lighter look as she’s been proudly flaunting her new hue all over her social media this week.
Luckily for KKW, she’s also got Chris on-call to help keep the blonde from turning brassy, as such a clean white shade can be tricky to maintain – especially if you’re naturally dark-haired. So, if you’re planning on keeping up with this Kardashian giving this platinum look a whirl, then her hairstylist has some helpful advice for you.
“First, you have to be willing to take a risk and want a dramatic change,” Chris says. “As it’s a big transformation, it can do extreme damage to your hair if not done properly” – so always get it done by a professional. He also advises using a shampoo that doesn’t leave anything behind on the hair that will dull it, to smooth and hydrate the strands.
