It’s only fours years since the last update when Jay Z, sorry I mean, JAY-Z dropped the hyphen from his name, following the release of his album Magna Carta Holy Grail. Just like the first time around, JAY-Z will be releasing a new album titled 4:44 later this month.
The change was confirmed by a rep for the rapper and the rapper’s name will now be spelt in UPPER cases and a hyphen is re-introduced between JAY and Z. So it’s now JAY-Z.

It seems that the change of name stems from an attempt to match JAY-Z’s name to the title of his upcoming album 4:44. The trailer for the album, which was released Sunday night showed the rapper’s name spelt as JAY:Z to match the colon in the album title. So this latest attempt could be a means of continuing with that tradition. The album will be available from June 30 to Tidal and Sprint customers only.
