Many people would remember the iconic song which spoke about the corruption and suffering in Nigeria and which caused quite a stir in the country back then.
The singer made waves back then with his socially conscious songs including Jaga Jaga, Mr Lecturer, among others. In 2019, the singer released Jaga Jaga 2.
Eedris AbdulKareem was a guest on Rubbin Minds where he spoke to the host of the show, Ebuka about a host of things, including the song.
Speaking about the song, and how it mirrors the Nigerian society, he said:
“In 2002 I dropped Nigeria Jaga Jaga, and the ex-president came on the National TV and said that boy wey sing that song, na him papa and him family jaga jaga. I was very happy that my message got to the president. I was very happy that the president talked back at me because that means they were listening and today I’ve been vindicated again because Nigeria is still jaga jaga.”
He also said he would continue to speak his truth with his music because that is the legacy that he will leave after he is gone.
