International Friendly: Iheanacho scores and misses a penalty as Tunisia and Nigeria play out draw on Tuesday

Kelechi Iheanacho was on target as the Super Eagles of Nigeria played a 1-1 draw with the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia in their second international friendly game in October played at the Jacques Lemans Arena in Austria on Tuesday.

The Leicester City forward put the Super Eagles in front before missing a chance to double the advantage from the penalty spot after Ahmed Musa was fouled by Ben Mustapha in goal for Tunisia.

Mohamed Drajer then equalised for Tunisia to  level late in the first half as the match ended 1-1 after 90 minutes.

Gernot Rohr made four changes to the starting eleven that faced Algeria with Ahmed Musa, Kevin Akpoguma, Moses Simon, and Kenneth Omeruo coming on.

Also, Genk striker Cyriel Dessers and CSKA Moscow winger Chidera Ejuke made their debuts for the Super Eagles, coming on as substitutes in the second half.

The Eagles put up a much-improved performance, bossing most part of the game but the resilient Tunisian held their own to force the match to a draw.

The Tunisians have now failed to beat the Super Eagles since the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles could have been in front as early as in the 12th minute but Akpoguma’s shot inside the penalty box from a free-kick was blocked from close range.

Three minutes later it was the Eagle’s shot-stopper Maduka Okoye who stood firm to deny Tunisia from going in front from a corner.

However, the Super Eagles got in front in the 21st minute through Leicester’s Kelechi Iheanacho who turned brilliantly inside the box before putting his chance away.

The Eagles had a chance to double their lead on the hour mark but Iheanacho saw his weak penalty saved by Ben Mustapha, in goal for Tunisia. With five minutes left in the first half, Okoye was called to action as he got down to stop Wahbi Khazri’s low shot.

Okoye, however, couldn’t prevent the ball from going in before half-time as Mohamed Drajer equalised for Tunisia when he slammed the ball into the roof of the net off a cross from the left.

Akpoguma almost got the Super Eagles back in front in first-half added time, but his goal-bound header from a corner was cleared off the line.

It was missed chances upon missed chances from both sides in the second half but on the stroke of 90 minutes, Okoye produced a superb save to ensure the Eagles did not lose the match.
