Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Fast & Furious 9 and five other films coming to cinemas in June 2021

“Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard” and “F9: The Fast Saga” are just some of the films that are coming to the cinemas in June 2021, and we have combined a list of the top seven. As expected, relaxing the pandemic restrictions have led to a mass rollout of many anticipated films. Thus, a guide like this is vital to know what you should watch out for.

2020 had its fair share of blockbusters despite them being strictly available on streaming platforms. We got to see action films like “The Old Guard”, “Project Power”, and “Extraction”, and romance offerings such as “Chemical Hearts”, “Rebecca”, and the erotically pleasing “365 Days”. Even the historical drama “The Trial of the Chicago 7” came out in the middle of the pandemic.

With lockdown all but over, cinemas (and streaming platforms because they are here to stay) will be getting the following films in June 2021:

1. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It

On 4 June 2021, Warner Bros. Pictures will release the horror blockbuster, “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It” in cinemas and simultaneously on HBO Max. It is also known as The Conjuring 3, that is, the sequel to 2013’s “The Conjuring” and 2016’s “The Conjuring 2”.

This is the eighth instalment overall in the “Conjuring Universe” franchise and features Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, reprising their roles as paranormal investigators.
New Line Cinema worked with director Michael Chaves and two other production companies — The Safran Company and Atomic Monster Productions.

2. Spirit Untamed

On the same day as the 2021 Conjuring film, Universal Pictures will drop the American computer-animated adventure film, “Spirit Untamed”. Produced by DreamWorks Animation, the animation is based on the Netflix animated television series “Spirit Riding Free”.

It marks the second cinema release in the “Spirit” franchise after the 2002 debut of “Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron”. Jake Gyllenhaal, Marsai Martin from “Little”, Mckenna Grace from “Young Sheldon”, and Isabela Moner from “Dora and the Lost City of Gold” will all appear in this film.

It is a good option for family cinema-goers to choose from if they don’t want to have nightmares from seeing the other horror film that is screening the same day.

3. Flashback

Still on 4 June 2021, Dylan O’Brien’s “Flashback” debuts in cinemas after its 2020 premiere at the Sitges Film Festival. The mystery thriller film features the much loved “Teen Wolf” and “Maze Runner” actor. Maika Monroe, the ‘Scream Queen’ from 2014’s “It Follows” also stars in the film.

The premise of “Flashback” is the protagonist’s adventure searching for a ‘vanished girl’. It is an immersive watch that leaves the audience haunted in the end.

4. In The Heights

This musical drama film is a refreshing break from the mainstream watch, and it offers an escape into the world of melody. “In The Heights” is based on the 2007 stage musical of the same name by Hudes and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

It features “Hamilton” star Anthony Ramos and “Straight Outta Compton” lead Corey Hawkins. Latin pop singer Leslie Grace, Mexican singer Melissa Barrera, and original In The Heights stage star Olga Merediz also star in this film. With 5000 Broadway Productions collaborating with Barrio Grrrl!, Likely Story, and SGS Pictures, this is promised to be a masterpiece.

5. Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard

Veteran entertainers Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek all reunite for 2021’s “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard”. The film is a sequel to the action-comedy “The Hitman’s Bodyguard” released in 2017, and it is scheduled to be released on 16 June 16 2021.
Marvel supervillain Brock Rumlow / Crossbones actor Frank Grillo also joins the all-star line-up along with Richard E. Grant, Tom Hopper, Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman. Far from being a colliding of big film names vying for screen time, the trailer shows that all the actors will be delivering humour and action scene by scene. We expect it to do better than its prequel, which depended too much on just Reynolds and Jackson.

6. F9: The Fast Saga

This is arguably the most anticipated film of 2021 after it was formerly scheduled to drop in April 2019. “F9: The Fast Saga” comes two years late, but the franchise fans, built over 20 years, can handle such a delay.

It promises to be an action film through and through and does not lack when it comes to casting. With the original Fast and Furious stars coming together again, adding John Cena, Cardi B, Anna Sawai, and Michael Rooker is just another way to ensure that almost everyone sees it for different reasons.

Fast and Furious 9 (as the film is also commonly called) will enter cinemas in the US on 25 June 2021 but it will come to South Korean cinemas a month earlier; on 19 May 2021.

7. Take Back

We close this list of films to see in cinemas this June with the 2021 action thriller, “Take Back”. While not much is available yet about it, the film stars celebrity couple Michael Jai White and Gillian White (in her first lead role). Also co-starring are Mickey Rourke and James Russo, two veteran American actors.

The film does not have a specific release date yet, but it is expected to debut in cinemas in June 2021.
