The embattled movie executive has been accused of sexually assaulting multiple women, including movie stars Lupita Nyong’o, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Salma Hayek.
Variety is reporting that “the settlement would also resolve the class action case against him and his board of directors in accusations of a pattern of sexual misconduct”.
Under the deal, the insurance companies for the Weinstein Co. would pay the victims with the most serious claims $500,000 apiece. A larger pool of claimants would split the balance of the funds, Variety is reporting.
It’s not all smooth sailing however, as the deal, which was first reported by the NY Times, must first be approved by the judge overseeing the Weinstein bankruptcy case.
In 2018, Harvey Weinstein’s film production company, Weinstein Co declared bankruptcy.
At least four plaintiffs are not in agreement with the settlement, and at least three are expected to oppose the deal.
