Full nominations’ list for AMAA 2019: Nollywood leads the pack!

The African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) 2019 is almost here!

Last night, organisers unveiled the list of nominees for the 27 categories of the award minus one.

Let’s explain what we meant by that.

There is no nomination for the Best Comedy category because the Jury says it didn’t receive any entry deemed fitting for the award. So, the Comedy Category was let go. Sorry, comedy filmmakers. Better luck next year.

So, in effect, awards will be given out in 26 categories.

Leading the pack of nominations are two Nigerian films – The Delivery Boy and King of Boys. While the Delivery Boy – directed by Adekunle “Nodash” Adejuyigbe – scored 13 nominations, King of Boys, which was directed by Kemi Adetiba garnered 8 nominations. Both directors are also in the running for the Best Director award, along with Kenya’s Wanuri Kahui (Rafiki), South Africa’s Daryne Joshua (Ellen), Jahmil X. Qubeka (Sew the Winter to My Skin). Also in the running are Morocco’s Mohcine Besri (Urgent), Mozambique’s Mickey Fonseca (Redemption) and Rqanda’s Joël Karekezi (Mercy of the Jungle). These directors’ films are also nominated for Best Film category.

AMAA 2019 is the 15th annual event of the show where excellency in African filmmaking is recognised. The event comes up on the 26th October 2019 in Lagos, Nigeria.
