Eddie Murphy was inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame on the show’s final day 27 March 2021. Due to pandemic restrictions, the award winners at the 52nd NAACP Image Awards were announced via live stream from 22-26 March with the main ceremony televised on the last day.
Eddie Murphy attended in person to pick up the award which was handed over by Arsenio Hall, his longtime friend and co-star of “Coming to America” and “Coming 2 America”.
Others who preceded the actor-comedian in NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame include Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Mavin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Spike Lee, Oprah Winfrey, and many other legends.

People who were inducted into this Hall of Fame were generally regarded as pioneers in their respective fields and those who shaped the profession for generations to come.
“I’ve been making movies for 40 years now … 40 years. This is the perfect thing to commemorate that and be brought into the hall of fame,” Murphy said as part of his acceptance speech.
On the same night, the late Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis both won Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture awards for their roles in the 2020 drama film, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
LeBron James also received the President’s Award for his public service achievements through his LeBron James Family Foundation and his I PROMISE School, a co-curricular educational initiative.
