Snakes and other reptiles are cold-blooded animals, and as such, they do not produce their own heat but instead rely on heat sources in the environment.
Their body temperature changes to the temperature of its surroundings. Because of this, reptiles that live in colder climates must hibernate through the winter.
Most reptiles especially snakes cannot survive in places where the ground stays frozen year round so there are no reptiles in Antarctica.
