The amount of bone tissue in the skeleton, known as bone mass, can keep growing until around age 30. At that point, bones have reached their maximum strength and density, known as peak bone mass.
Between the age of 30 and menopause, women tend to experience minimal change in total bone mass. Women start to lose their bone mass by 1% by the age of 30, but in the first 1- 5 postmenopausal years most women go through rapid bone loss around 3-5% after which the bone loss returns to 1% each year.
So wait…men don’t experience this at all? Only women?
