In the England EFL Cup (also called the Carabao Cup), Chelsea proved their dominance over a hapless Nottingham forest after they thrashed them 5-1 with the consolation goal coming very late in the second half. Chelsea’s youngster Kenedy opened the scoring in the early stages before the quarter hour mark and Batshuyai who went on to grab a hat-trick doubled the score and Musonda ensure the result was beyond the visitors by halftime. Batshuayi netted two goals in the second half to allow him take the match ball home and Darikwa grabbed a consolation goal for Nottingham forest in the additional minutes.
Manchester United too showed they meant business after rending Burton Albion apart with a 4-1 score line. Marcos Rashford notched a brace before the first 2o minutes and Lingard and Martial also got in on the goals as Mourinho proved to be a master at squad responsibility rotations. Lloyd Dyer scored the only goal Burton Albion will be having in the competition this season.
Arsenal beat Doncaster 1-0 in a tight game and the Gunners will be grateful to Theo Walcott for bailing them out of an embarrassing situation with his 25th minute strike. West Brom had meanwhile been entertaining some amounts of hope after Yacob equalized Leroy Sane’s opener for Manchester City, but their fairytale was brought to an end when Sane got his brace 5 minutes after the equalizer and moved them into the next round.
