Champions League Results: Sergio Ramos with a century of goals as Real Madrid punish Inter Milan late on; Plus other results

La Liga champions, Real Madrid, after dropping points in their first two fixtures finally made amends in the third to boost their chances of reaching the Champions League knockout stages, after a late winner by substitute Rodrygo gave them a 3-2 home victory over Inter Milan in a Group B clash on Tuesday, 3 November.

The winners of a record 13 titles in Europe’s elite club competition are now level with Shakhtar Donetsk with four points in the bag and one point adrift current group leaders, Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Real had gotten two goals ahead, courtesy of Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos but they were soon level 2-2, and were flirting with a defeat before their Brazilian duo of Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo combined to save the day.

Both sides had missed chances before Karim Benzema was rewarded with a gift to put Real ahead in the 25th-minute after intercepting a dreadful back pass by Real’s former wing-back, Achraf Hakimi.

And the hosts were much in control after 33 minutes as Sergio Ramos headed in their second, his 100th goal for the club in all competitions.

But Lautaro Martinez got Inter back into contention two minutes after Madrid scored their second goal, thanks to a sublime assist by Nicolo Barella.

Ivan Perisic equalised midway through the second half as Real seem to have been rattled. The Croatian fired a shot past Courtois into the far corner from close range.

Inter then went on a spree of missed chances and were made to regret them late on as Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo, brought into the fray together by Zidane shortly before Inter’s equaliser, carved out the winner from a lightning-fast break.

Inter are now under pressure to turn their fortunes around in the group stage as they sit bottom of the group and will hope to have striker Romelu Lukaku back for the reverse fixture on 25 November after the Belgium striker missed the match with a thigh injury.
