Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger has given is opinion on what he sees has become a drop of quality in the biggest football competition in the world of clubs.
Speaking to the media Wenger complained about the lack of ingredients in the teams that make up the group stage, he had said:
“I think that, in the group stage, there are not many interesting games. “You can only choose one or two games. Look at the audiences; it has lost some attraction of power.”
Though he did not specify he probably must have been pointing at the fact that some fixtures had a very likely outcome that took away the excitement and unpredictability that characterizes football, especially in matches that involve a European giant and an underdog. Even reports have emerged that TV rights are not seeing as much viewers as in the past.
Wenger though admitted that he misses not playing in the competition after Arsenal failed to qualify for the Champions league for the first time in almost two decades.
Arsenal will play BATE on Thursday after winning their first match of the campaign against German side Cologne.
