‘We didn’t rise to top because of insults’ – Yemi Alade reacts to video of OAPs mocking female artists

Nigerian popular singer Yemi Alade in her reaction to a video of some female on-air-personalities (OAPs) mocking Tiwa Savage has stated that such actions cannot “bring us down!

We think that’s a fair conclusion given that the artists did not rise to the top by insults as Yemi Alade rightly pointed out.

The unnamed females were speaking off air but didn’t realise they were being secretly recorded as they diss Tiwa Savage whom they said is successful based on songs she didn’t write. In the process, the females just exposed their ignorance. Not every singer writes their song, that’s why you have songwriters. The singer’s preoccupation is to sing and if they happen to have written their own songs, as some singers do, then so be it.

So, these OAPs were bashing Tiwa Savage for doing what is very normal in her industry. Mind you, constructive criticism is appreciated by most people, and as Yemi Alade notes: “it’s impossible to be liked by everyone! ” But to talk bad about someone behind their back is a big NO, NO, which was exactly what the women did.

It was Tiwa Savage who first shared the video publicly although she did not say how she came by the clip. But does it matter? Tiwa, in her caption of the video justifiably noted how some females bring down their own. She also dared the female OAPs to express their opinion to her in person.

While many celebrities and Nigerians have condemned the OAPs action, Yemi Alade’s reaction was particularly anticipated. That was because the OAPs singled her out as a better artist than Tiwa Savage, a comparison that Yemi called “insulting“.

Yemi, who recently released her Woman of Steel album, wondered what the “mental state” of the women were. “How can people this wounded in spirit and poor in mind be able to get jobs that involve addressing millions of people, influencing their thoughts, educating listeners, promoting justice?” asks Yemi.

Yemi called the three OAPs bad eggs among the many women that support other women. According to Yemi, the three women “need re-orientation, re-education, and redirection in life.”

Yemi Alade, who says she can’t forgive the women adds: “This (is definitely) how they talk about all artists! All people! This is the hate they SPREAD!

“...We didn’t rise to the top because of insults, neither can it bring us down!” ends the post.
