Lil Nas X has become the most-streamed artist of last week in the US with his “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” single topping both Spotify and YouTube Music charts. The song’s popularity owes so much to its controversial video, which pissed off one part of the country and pleased the other part.
On Spotify’s top ten songs in the US, we see “Peaches” by Justin Beiber featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon, drop to second place after leading the chart last week. Giveon also got his single “Heartbreak Anniversary” back into the top ten.
Additionally, Cardi B’s “Up” made a surprising return to the ranking as well. The artist also trended alongside Lil Nas X when the controversy over his Montero video extended to her.
At the time, to clear the air about her beliefs and religious inclination, she wrote: “Don’t confuse and compare my sexual confidence with anything that has to do with religion.Ya keep putting me in these tweets and I don’t play that s--t .I have very strong faith in God and I don’t play with him neither.Leave me then f--k alone! [sic]”.
