The Transmission Company of Nigeria announced that the national electric grid has collapsed and will lead to blackouts due to loss of electrical generation.
They have however urged Nigerians to understand that there is ongoing works to restore the lost power grids that was said to have been triggered by the tripping of Egbin power plants Units ST4, ST6 and ST5, stating that the capacity under-utilisation and operational capability that has reduced made the grid prone to malfunctioning.
It is reported that the TCN has sent an application to the (NERC) Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission for a tariff review to avert further occurrence and ensure that the Generation Companies would be given the necessary incentives to provide sufficient spinning reserves and other ancillary services critical for managing the national grid.
