The 56-year-old singer said during American show The Sunday Project that he thinks the success of reality shows such as Keeping up with the Kardashians and the Real Housewives franchise is “horrific.”
“I think it’s horrific that we live in that world and I can tell you I’ve never given 60 seconds of my life, EVER, to one of those Housewives of Blah Blah and Kardashians,” Jovi said.
Afterwards, he went after Kim Kardashian, and slammed the fame she got from her infamous 2007 sex tape with Ray J.
“What’s gonna be in your autobiography? ‘I made a porno and guess what I got famous.’ F**k, sorry, I’ll pass!” he said.
He then encouraged viewers to create “art” rather than seek celebrity and said that for him, fame was just a “byproduct” of his creativity.
“Go and write a book, paint a painting, act, study, sing, play write. Fame is a byproduct of writing a good song.”
Jovi’s harsh words against some of America’s biggest reality stars are a contradiction as he also tried to break into reality television once himself.
In 2015, Bon Jovi became an executive producer on a Weinstein brothers reality show project, If I Wasn’t a Rock Star.
The show’s aim was to follow well known rock stars as they went back to their hometowns and tried their hands at local jobs. The show never took off and the project was never talked about again.
Bon Jovi has sold over 130 million albums, and according to Forbes has a net worth of over $400 million.
