British actor Sid Owen’s fiancée Victoria Shores shares her miscarriage experience

Victoria Shores, the fiancée of English actor and TV presenter Sid Owen, opened up about her miscarriage ordeal, stating that she almost blamed herself for it.

Nine months ago, in March 2020, the now pregnant Victoria Shores suffered a miscarriage that left her in shock and self-doubt. The 42-year-old waitress made the revelation on the latest edition of the Loose Women show. Victoria, who already has two children from a previous relationship, took in for her Sid Owen in 2020 as they both looked to start a family. 

“For me, it’s about the support after. You feel very low. I found it difficult to concentrate on anything,” she said before adding that while it wasn’t her first pregnancy, it was the first with Sid. “You do feel a big sense of guilt. Even though I’ve had two children. You think, is it something I’ve done this time,” said Shores.

Sid himself described how they held hands as Victoria shed tears after hearing the news. “You just want to be strong for a partner. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for a woman internally,” he said. Fortunately, Victoria got pregnant again, as Sid announced in September 2021. They expect the baby by February 2022 but are keeping every other detail hush-hush.

Painful as miscarriages are, psychologically and physically, they are not rare. While it is hard to discuss for many, we have seen several celebrities open up about their ordeal with it. Here are a few of them.

Michelle Obama

The former first lady of the US highlighted how the mum-culture about issues like miscarriage causes women to suffer alone and feel like a failure. Before releasing her bestselling book Becoming, in 2018, Michelle told ABC News in an interview that she suffered a miscarriage, and consequently, and conceived her two daughters through IVF. “I felt lost and alone, and I felt like I failed. I didn’t know how common miscarriages were because we don’t talk about them. We sit in our own pain, thinking that somehow we’re broken,” she said.

Beyoncé 

The “Halo” singer opened up to Oprah Winfrey in a 2013 interview about her miscarriage before having Blue Ivy. She acknowledged that it is a unique story and that many couples have passed through a similar ordeal. “It’s one of the reasons I did not share I was pregnant the second time because you don’t know what’s going to happen. And that was hard because all of my family and my friends knew and we celebrated. It was hard,” Beyoncé said. In another interview, six years later, she said the experience changed her perspective on success, as it made her “search for deeper meaning” in life.

Carrie Underwood

American singer and songwriter Carrie Underwood experienced three different miscarriages between 2017 (two) and 2018 (one). This she revealed in a 2018 interview on CBS Sunday Morning. Rather than be angry, however, she opted for gratitude for what she already had — a family (husband and a child). Her fortunes turned in 2019, and she welcomed a second child with her husband. In 2021, she told People magazine: “But the miscarriages made me get real with God and say, ‘OK, I’m kind of giving up a little bit. If this isn’t meant to happen, then I need to accept that and know that someday I’ll understand why.'”

Meghan Markle 

The Duchess of Sussex suffered a miscarriage during the pandemic in July of 2020. In a November 2020 opinion piece for the New York Times, titled “The Losses We Share,” Meghan described feeling a sharp cramp while she changed Archie’s diaper. She wrote: “I knew, as I clutched my firstborn child, that I was losing my second.” Soon enough, her fears were confirmed at the hospital, and she and her husband wept while she tried to imagine how they’d heal. The couple pulled through those hard times and have since welcomed a daughter in the aftermath of it all.

Chrissy Teigen

Teigen and her husband, John Legend, experienced a miscarriage in late 2020 as a result of a “weak placenta.” In September, she was admitted to the hospital and placed on bed rest for two weeks after severe bleeding. The model was given a blood transfusion and also passed a blood clot. In a tweet she shared in October that year, she shared the sad news, writing: “We are shocked and in the kind of deep pain you only hear about, the kind of pain we’ve never felt before.” The post was accompanied by a monochrome photo of herself crying in her hospital bed. The pregnancy was supposed to be the couple’s third child together.

Halsey

Singer-songwriter Halsey’s miscarriage experience makes for an intriguing story. According to her, she suffered a miscarriage while on tour, and in a bid to avoid canceling performance, she wore adult diapers, took pain medication, and made it through the shows. She, however, beat herself up, blaming herself for the miscarriage and attributing it to the lifestyle she was living. “I wasn’t drinking. I wasn’t doing drugs; I was f–king overworked — in the hospital every couple of weeks because I was dehydrated, needing bags of IVs brought to my green room,” she said. Halsey added that she was anemic and was fainting a lot. “My body just broke the f–k down,” she added.
