Following the controversy around Ruby Rose being fired from the Batwoman TV show, we look at other famous actors who have fallen out with their employers.
Landing a movie or TV series role is no guarantee of a permanent job for actors because they could be fired and replaced at any given time, either before, during, or even after production.
Sometimes the directors realize halfway through that the star isn’t right for the part, or sometimes the actors’ behavior on and off the set may pose a problem.
Either way, when not handled professionally by one or both parties, it leads to a full-blown controversy. See why some of your favorite celebrities got booted from a project they were working on
Ruby Rose
Ruby Rose was fired from their role as Batwoman after starring in just one season of the CW superhero TV show Batwoman in 2020.
The news of their departure came as a surprise because it is usually unheard of for the main lead of a TV series to leave after the inaugural season. Needless to say, there has been a lot of speculation about why Ruby Rose decided to leave the show.
One of such speculations is that the star was injured in a stunt on the show that required emergency surgery which meant that they faced the possibility of paralysis.

Recently, in an Instagram post, Rose leveled allegations of heavy-handedness and inappropriate behavior against the producers of the CW drama Batwoman and co-star Dougray Scott after more than a year of their exit from the superhero series, saying they were forced to leave the show by the management.
They wrote: “I’m going to tell the whole world what really happened on that set. I will come for you so what happened to me never happens to another person again. And so I can finally take back my life and the truth. Shame on you.”
At the time of their exit, the actor had called the decision to leave a “difficult” one. Rose played the title role of Kate Kane/Batwoman in the show’s first season, becoming the first lesbian live-action superhero on TV.
Continuing, Rose wrote: “This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew, and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles.”
Kevin Spacey
Kevin Spacey didn’t just get fired from a movie; he had his acting career come to a screeching halt due to several sexual misconducts.
In 2017 Actor Anthony Rapp revealed in an interview with Buzzfeed that he allegedly had an unwanted sexual encounter with Spacey back when he was underage working in the theater. Not long after his revelation, more than ten other accusers came forward with similar stories.
At first, Spacey claimed to be “horrified” by Rapp’s version of events, but he took the opportunity to come out of the closet publicly.
His claim didn’t get him off the hook as his character in Netflix’s House of Cards, Frank Underwood, was killed off, and the show’s final season focused on Robin Wright’s character, Claire, and the aftermath of Frank’s death.
Spacey was also edited out of All the Money in the World, and Christopher Plummer replaced him.
Sylvester Stallone
Now, if this doesn’t surprise you, that would be a surprise. Yes, Stallone has been fired from a movie too. However, his case is quite funny because he was done with negotiations and had gotten the job and even the script, but he got killed out before the shooting even started.
The role of Axel Foley, played by Eddie Murphy in Beverly Hills Cops, was originally offered to Stallone—but he sabotaged his own chances of playing the character by attempting to re-write his role, and the studio didn’t like that.
The movie went on to become one of Murphy’s biggest, bringing home $234 million at the box office. It seems like Stallone may have missed out on losing this gig.
Columbus Short
Short got fired from the hit Shonda Rhimes TV series Scandal due to his own real-life scandal involving allegations of domestic violence.
The actor’s wife claimed that he put a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her, then she went ahead and got a restraining order from him.
The whole drama led to his being fired from the series. He released this statement confirming his departure from the show: “At this time I must confirm my exit from a show I’ve called home for 3 years, with what is the most talented ensemble in television today.”
