Born into a family of academics, India’s biggest acting export Priyanka Chopra says that she had been on her way to becoming an engineer before switching careers.
“I didn’t know I could be an actor,” Priyanka told Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast recently. “I didn’t know that was a professional choice that could be made.”
The 38-year-old actress started getting movie offers in India after she won the Miss World beauty pageant in 2000. Without it, she would have followed the footsteps of her parents (Dr Ashok Chopra and Dr Madhu Chopra) into the academic world.
Unlike many actors, Priyanka Chopra learned on the go; “I didn’t know what it was all about so my acting school was on set. I learned everything that I did by being thrown into the deep end and I suddenly realised that I was really good at it,” the multiple People’s Choice Awards winner said.

In addition, she took the opportunity to thank her husband Nick Jonas for his support. Priyanka has since gone from a Bollywood star to also get notable roles in Hollywood films as well.
Besides acting, she has an impressive singing career as well with her single “In My City” was certified triple platinum.
Recently, Priyanka starred in 2021 film “White Tiger” and she is cast alongside Sam Heughan and Celine Dion for romantic drama “Text for You”. She is also part of the cast for upcoming Matrix 4 film as well.
For a woman on her way to becoming an engineer, Priyanka has not done badly in the film industry. In 2016, the Government of India honoured her with the Padma Shri; the fourth highest civilian award in India. Time once named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and Forbes listed her among the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women for two years.
