Nicki Minaj’s brother sentenced to 25 years in prison for raping his stepdaughter

Nicki Minaj’s brother Jelani Maraj has been sentenced to 25 years in jail for raping his stepdaughter.

Maraj, 38, was originally charged with predatory sexual assault and endangering the life of a child back in 2015.  Two years later, he was found guilty of the charges in a trial that lasted three weeks.

At the time, his lawyer said that Maraj would appeal the conviction, claiming that the lawsuit was filed in order to force his younger sister, Nicki Minaj to pay the girl’s family $25 million.

The judge, however, dismissed his appeal, based on an accusation of jury misconduct.

The victim also testified in court that, beginning in April 2015 and over a period of eight months, Maraj would rape her while her mother was at work.

She also testified that the assaults sometimes happened twice a day. Prosecutors say DNA evidence supports the allegations. The girl’s younger brother testified that he witnessed one assault.

At the beginning of the trial, Minaj – who was close to her brother – supported him. She paid his $100,000 bond when he was arrested.

Following his criminal lawsuit, however, their relationship collapsed. She visited him in jail once, but reportedly only because of their mother.
