Naomi Campbell shares career advice as she celebrates 34 years of modelling [photo]

Supermodel, Naomi Campbell is celebrating 34 years of modelling today 15 April and she has words for younger models.

The supermodel has much to celebrate as she succeeded in breaking into the modelling industry as a black woman back in the late 1980s. She was discovered at the age of 15, climbed to the top of the modelling ranks and maintained her position at the top for decades.

She has walked the catwalk for such designers as Gianni Versace, Azzedine Alaïa, and Isaac Mizrahi, and posed for such photographers as Peter Lindbergh, Herb Ritts, and Bruce Weber.

In December 1987, she appeared on the cover of British Vogue as the publication’s first black cover girl since 1966. She also became the first black model to appear on the cover of French Vogue with the designer Yves St. Laurent, threatening to withdraw his advertising if the magazine refused to place black models on its cover.

The following year, she became the first black model to appear on the September cover of American Vogue magazine, which is the most important edition of the magazine.

To celebrate 34 years of her modelling career, she took to social media to celebrate and share some words of advice to younger models. She wrote:

“34 years of modeling, love, growth, friendship, wisdom, joy, pain, loss, experience, fun, laughter and so much more. You have got to love what you do, love it everyday, through highs and the lows, the wins and the losses…I can hosently say I love what I do and thank you all for being here with me every step of the way. ?
