Rajput died aged 34. He was found hanging in his Mumbai apartment in an apparent suicide in June. His death has shaken Bollywood and sparked mental health conversations in the industry.
However, Rajput’s family has rejected the reports that he suffered from depression and have instead accused the actor’s former girlfriend, Rhea Chakraborty of stealing his money and harassing him.
She strongly denied the allegations and petitioned the Supreme Court to transfer the case from the local police station in Rajput’s state of Bihar.
Government solicitor general Tushar Mehta has said that the Central Bureau of Investigation, India’s top federal crime agency, would take charge of the case, which has been the subject of media headlines for weeks.
Rajput’s death came barely a week after his manager tragically took her life and sparked mental health conversations in Bollywood.
Superstars, Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma, who have shared their own problems with depression and anxiety posted messages on the importance of seeking help which received backlash from fans and fellow actors.
They were criticised for their messages and many pointed out the difficulties faced by those struggling to get into Bollywood, one of whom was Rajput before his big break in ‘Kai Po Che’.
