Turn Up Charlie, a brand new original comedy for the Netflix will follow the titular Charlie (played by Idris Elba), a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor, who is given a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a manny to his famous best friend’s daughter – a problem-child.
Last year, Elba starred in four projects including the Oscar-nominated Molly’s Game and the hit Marvel comedy, Thor Ragnarok. The actor made his directorial debut with the crime drama, Yardie, and steered a period comedy series, In The Long Run.
While the rest of the cast has not been announced, the writers and producers are an exciting mix — with creatives who worked on acclaimed shows like Community, Vicious and more. According to Variety, Netflix has already ordered an eight-episode first season of the half-hour comedy and production will begin this May in the UK.
