Basel shocked the Russians at home with a surprising win that does much to raise their hopes in getting beyond the first round with goals from Xhaka and Oberlin. Basel are now second after two wins (one against Benfica).

The trio of Mbappe, Neymar and Cavani were on the score sheet for the visitors as they recorded what has become a routine win with Angel Di Maria getting to round off the triumph.

Thomas Meuller who is making a return to the line up under the new coach opened the scoring and Kimmich and Hummels added the remaining goals as the Bavarians seek to reestablish their fear factor.

Barcelona won their third game in the champions league this season with Messi scoring his 100th goal in the competition, though Pique’s sending off will dampen their spirit a little.

The Old ladies turned an early deficit around with Mandzukic notching the winning goal with 84 minutes on the clock.
