The publishing house that have been making great impact on Nigerian literature through their efforts on supporting young and unpublished writers have announced the opening of their National Teachers Award to honor the teachers within the country and to mark the celebration of the International Teachers Day held of October 5.
The award comes with a prize of N10,000 and is aimed at recognizing the efforts of teachers within the English and Literature-in-English circle. The prize also comes as a result of societal view of teachers as second class when they deserve better and the general public are invited to “nominate” teachers based on the following criteria:
- Must be working with students within the age of 16 and below.
- Must be teaching English, Literature or Creative Arts.
- Must be working in a Nigerian school.
(Teachers working in rural communities or with socially disadvantaged students should be nominated).
Then there can also be nominations for teachers retired no more than 5-10 years ago and it is important to also note that the award will not be giving based on “votes” or amount of nomination but instead on the quality contributions of the teacher.
For Nominations:
Send an email to info@wrr.ng stating the name of the teacher, contact details, school and location, a 20-50 word statement justifying the nomination and possibly a photograph.
