Gregory Pardlo who won the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry for his book Digest, will be at the Pee Dee Fiction and Poetry Festival that is held annually by the Francis Marion University on November 9-10.
The event will have great impact on the University, its students and also the community at large as it is free and open to every person interested in attending the event.
The festival that was first held in 2006 has been constant and now includes highly placed writers that are recognized all over the world although this year’s guest writers are award winners, the University through the chair of the Department of English, Modern Languages and Philosophy, Rebecca Flannagan has said the criteria for choosing writers to race the occasion is not based on awards and recognition but:
“Whenever we choose writers for the Pee Dee Fiction and Poetry Festival, we always consider one thing: choosing writers whose texts will impact and affect our students and community” she had said.
The festival have had other notable attendance in the past like Andre Dubus III, National Book award writer Terrance Hayes, former Poet Laureate Natasha Trethewey and Tobias Wolff.
